Hope Lights Lives FAQ's
What is the Hope Lights Lives luminary campaign?
Hope Lights Lives is Family Centers' annual fundraiser to benefit the bereavement and critical illness support offered through the Center for HOPE and The Den for Grieving Kids. On a pre-determined night around the holiday season, thousands of residents throughout Fairfield County place special luminary candles on their lawns to remember those we've lost or are coping with a critical illness or life-altering circumstance. Residents can purchse luminary kits and all proceeds will directly support the Center for HOPE and The Den for Grieving Kids.
This year's luminary lighting will take place on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 5 p.m., with a raindate set for Dec. 20.
How can I participate?
Hope Lights Lives is a volunteer-based project. More than 200 volunteers from Darien, Fairfield, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Rowayton, Southport, Stamford, Weston and Wilton have already signed on to becoming Block Captains for this year's Hope Lights Lives campaign. These committed volunteers will be selling luminary kits to their neighbors on almost 350 streets throughout Fairfield County.
What is a Block Captain?
Block captains are volunteers who distribute information about the Hope Lights Lives campgaign and luminary order forms to their neighbors in early October. Generally, block captains distribute the info via email or by leaving informational packets in their neighbors’ mailboxes. After informing their neighbors about the opportunity to purchase luminaries, block captains collect their completed order forms and payment for luminary kits, and send them all to the Center for HOPE. In early December, block captains pick up luminary kits at a predetermined pickup location and distribute kits to all neighbors who purchased them. We provide block captains with all the handouts and information to make this process as streamlined as possible, and we’re always available during normal business hours to answer any questions you may have.
