Home Depot Co-Founder Ken Langone Enthralls Crowd at Titan Series Breakfast
On Wednesday, Oct. 3 Family Centers welcomed Home Depot Co-Founder Ken Langone as the latest speaker in its Titans Series. The event was held at the Stamford Hilton.

The event featured an interview-style Q&A format moderated by Bloomberg Television Editor-at-Large Erik Schatzker. During the interview, Langone treated a crowd of more than 260 with his insightful perspectives on business, philanthropy and the future outlook of the United States. He also touched on lessons he’s learned through his illustrious career and other themes outlined in his new book, I Love Capitalism!
This event was co-chaired by Laurie and Peter Grauer, and was the most successful in Family Centers’ Titan Series. More than $130,000 was raised to support Family Centers’ programs addressing the Opportunity Gap in lower Fairfield County.

Family Centers’ Titans Series brings America’s greatest leaders to Fairfield County for intimate and captivating discussions. Previous speakers have included Dr. Henry Kissinger, former Hewlett Packard CEO Meg Whitman, former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker, financial news anchor Maria Bartiromo and former CIA Director Jack Devine.
Langone’s leadership, determination and business savvy was instrumental in organizing the financing needed to co-found The Home Depot in 1978. Since its incorporation, the home improvement chain has grown to become an international giant with nearly 2,300 locations and 400,000 employees. Langone served as the company’s lead director and a member of its executive committee until 2008. He was also a former director of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). Currently, Langone serves as CEO of Invemed, LLC, a NYSE- member firm specializing in healthcare and high technology companies
As a philanthropist, Langone has donated millions of dollars to further advancements in healthcare and education, and support the work of charities benefitting children and families in the U.S. In 2008, the New York University Medical Center was renamed in his honor following a $200 million gift. Langone and his wife, Elaine, are also actively involved in charities including the Robin Hood Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, Harlem Children’s Zone and many others.
Family Centers is a private, nonprofit organization offering education and human services to children, adults and families in Fairfield County. More than 200 professionals and 4,000 trained volunteers work together to provide a wide range of responsive, innovative programs. A United Way, Community Fund of Darien and New Canaan Community Foundation partner agency, Family Centers is a member of the Connecticut Council of Family Service Agencies and the Alliance for Children and Families and is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
