Hokin, Perisa Named "Family Champions"
Family Centers' board member Richard Hokin and staff member Elena Perisa were recognized by the Connecticut Council of Family Service Agencies (CCFSA) for their outstanding commitment to improving the lives of families.
The ceremony, held at the Trumbull Marriot on May 14, honored human services professionals and volunteers who have shown exceptional dedication to strengthening families in Connecticut. Hokin and Perisa were both presented with CCFSA's Family Champion Award, which recognizes individuals who have devoted themselves to helping families achieve their full potential.
As a member of the Family Centers Board of Trustees and Directors for 20 years, Hokin has made unparalleled contributions to the agency's well-being. For 15 years, he led Family Centers' investment group and successfully ensured the agency's financial health through managing the endowment fund. A Darien resident, Hokin has worked on fundraising events, solicited individual and business donors and has been a generous personal contributor. He has also recruited several crucial people to serve on the board.
Perisa, of Greenwich, has been a member of Family Centers' Head Start Preschool staff for 15 years, and acted as an advocate for Greenwich's most vulnerable children and parents. The success of her teaching methods is proven through her students, who graduate from preschool with the ability to communicate in English, the skills to be an engaged member of a group and most importantly, a joy of learning. Perisa also works with the Greenwich Board of Education, Early Childhood Consultation Partnership and other community groups to improve the classroom environment for low-income and underprivileged children.
