In a discussion moderated by News 12 Connecticut Health Reporter Gillian Neff, Shriver discussed the value of therapy, relationships and lessons she’s learned as a member of the famed Kennedy family and a former First Lady of California. She used themes outlined in her new book, “I’ve Been Thinking…”, to emphasize her points.
“Sometimes people think that in a setting like this you don’t have any problems,” Shriver told an audience of nearly 350. “I’ve met a lot of successful businessmen and business women who are really miserable, who have no concept of how to deal with emotional pain, no concept of how to deal with failure, and completely warped concepts of power and success. Being able to talk about grief and stuff that happens is a really great ability.”
Released on Feb. 27, “I’ve Been Thinking…” includes quotes, prayers, and reflections designed to help readers find the wisdom, guidance, encouragement and inspiration they need to lead a more meaningful life. In the book, Shriver also shares tales from her own life, including the guidance her mother gave her, how it felt to send her youngest off to college and what she has learned about handling life’s many curveballs.
The 2018 Center for HOPE Luncheon was co-chaired by Lauren Caffray, Jan Dilenschneider and Nancy Fazzinga. All proceeds from the event benefitted the Center for HOPE and The Den for Grieving Kids, Family Centers’ programs offering counseling and support to residents of lower Fairfield County coping with a loss, a critical illness or life-altering circumstance.
